Medical equipment delivered to Ho District Hospital for primary healthcare programme

President John Mahama has presented a truckload of medical equipment to the Ho District Hospital, in an intervention linked to the government’s Free Primary Healthcare programme.

According to MyJoyOnline, the equipment forms part of a nationwide distribution of essential medical logistics intended to strengthen primary-level healthcare services and broaden access to care, particularly in underserved communities.

At the presentation in Ho, the President commended health workers for their work and said the government remained committed to improving their working conditions.

He said the Free Primary Healthcare programme is intended to provide free services at Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds, health centres and polyclinics for people who are not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The programme is designed to reduce the financial barriers that can prevent people from seeking basic care, while making essential services more accessible, the report said.

National distribution

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the government had procured more than 24,000 medical items for distribution to health facilities across the country in support of the programme’s implementation.

He described the policy as complementary to the NHIS, with a focus on prevention through community outreach, early detection of disease and timely intervention.

The minister said health professionals would undertake regular outreach activities and home visits under the initiative, aimed at promoting healthy living and helping to identify illnesses earlier.

The government expects the distribution and wider programme to reinforce primary healthcare delivery and improve access to essential services nationwide.
