Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has lauded the impressive depth and emerging talent within Ghana’s national team, following their strong showing at the recently concluded Unity Cup in London.
With several key players absent from Otto Addo’s squad, opportunities opened up for newcomers like Christopher Bonsu Baah and Caleb Yirenchi, who made notable impressions.
Despite fielding a relatively inexperienced team, Ghana secured third place in the four-nation tournament with solid performances.
“Some of our usual players couldn’t be here, but Ghana has a lot of talent,” Ayew told Ghana FA media. “The new boys really showed their quality over the two games.”
He emphasized the importance of giving fresh players a chance, especially when preparation time is short.
“We only trained twice before the first game, yet the team looked sharp, ready, and confident against Trinidad and Tobago—that showed in how we played.”
Looking ahead, Ayew expressed optimism about having a full-strength squad for Ghana’s upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“Hopefully, we’ll have the entire squad available for the next round of matches so we can fight for the needed points.”
Ghana bounced back from a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in their opener by thrashing Trinidad and Tobago 4-0, clinching third place in the competition.
The Black Stars are expected to regroup in September for key qualifiers against Chad and Mali on Matchdays 7 and 8 of the World Cup qualification campaign.
