Government Owes 28 Hotels From 2023 African Games

The Ghanaian government is yet to fully settle debts incurred during the 2023 African Games, with 28 hotels still awaiting payment for their services.

This was revealed by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif during a recent press briefing.

Despite the continental sporting event concluding over 100 days ago, and initial reports suggesting that over 40 hotels were considering legal action, Ussif clarified the situation.

While acknowledging that 44 hotels were contracted for the Games, he stated that payments have been made in full to 16 of them.

The Minister admitted that the remaining 28 hotels have only received 40% of their owed amounts, citing budgetary constraints as the reason for the delayed payments.

He assured the public that the outstanding balances would be settled as soon as additional funds become available.

Ghana successfully hosted the 2023 African Games, welcoming over 13,000 athletes and officials from across the continent. The country garnered 69 medals during the competition.
