GFA Extends Presidential Term Limit to Three Terms

- GFA increases presidential term limit from two to three terms
- Amendment approved at 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram
- GFA says move supports long-term development and leadership stability
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved a constitutional amendment increasing the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The decision was made at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress, held in Prampram. In line with Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), the annual Congress is convened ahead of each football season to assess progress, present financial and activity reports, and outline strategic plans for Ghanaian football.
The 2025 Congress brought together delegates from all 124 member associations to discuss key governance reforms.
The newly approved amendment aligns with the statutes of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Under the new rule, a GFA president may serve up to three four-year terms, for a total of 12 years in office.
According to the GFA, the extension is intended to ensure leadership stability and support the implementation of long-term development initiatives for the sport.
The change—reportedly endorsed by FIFA—could impact current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who is in his second term with two years left to serve.
