Former GFA VP Criticizes Poor Officiating in Ghana Premier League

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has expressed concerns over the quality of officiating in the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

After a strong start that drew higher fan attendance across venues, recent weeks have been marred by controversial refereeing decisions and allegations of misconduct.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Afriyie praised the league’s promising opening but voiced worries about its current trajectory.

“The Premier League began very well, and fan turnout increased across the various venues, but the allegations and poor officiating have undermined the integrity of the league. It is both worrying and concerning,” he said.

Afriyie called on league authorities to take decisive measures, including a thorough review of leadership within the Referees Management Committee.
