Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren has acknowledged the challenge his team will face against England’s Lionesses on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Ghana will travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on the European champions, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT. Speaking to the Ghana FA website ahead of the match, Björkegren admitted it would be a tough encounter but emphasized that his team possesses the qualities to compete.
“We’re jumping into deep water to see if we can swim against the best team in the world. It’s going to be very tough, and we need to be aware of that. But we also know we have certain qualities,” he said.
He added: “We may not be among the world’s top five yet, but we must challenge ourselves. Matches like this serve as an important benchmark for our team’s progress.”
Björkegren described the game as one of the most demanding fixtures globally, noting that playing away against England will test his squad. “It will show us how good we are and what we need to improve to climb the FIFA rankings and maintain our status as one of Africa’s top teams,” he said.
As part of their preparation, the Black Queens recently secured a victory against Aston Villa’s Women’s team. The upcoming friendly is part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
