Barcelona extends Fati’s contract to 2028

Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has secured a season-long loan move to Monaco for the 2025-26 campaign, the Spanish club has confirmed.

Alongside the loan, Barça announced that Fati, 22, has extended his contract with the club through the end of the 2027-28 season.

The agreement includes an option for Monaco to make the transfer permanent next summer if Fati performs well in Ligue 1.

According to ESPN sources, Fati was drawn to the opportunity to play in France and participate in the Champions League, seeking to revive his career after limited game time at Barcelona over the past year.

Under coach Hansi Flick, he made just 11 appearances across all competitions, starting only three games and totaling 297 minutes on the pitch.

After bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old in 2019, Fati’s development was hampered by a series of injuries.

He spent the 2023 season on loan at Brighton, scoring four goals in 27 Premier League appearances before returning to Barcelona last summer.

Overall, Fati has scored 29 goals in 123 appearances for the Catalan club and holds the record as the youngest scorer in Champions League history at 17 years and 40 days old—28 days younger than teammate Lamine Yamal.

Internationally, he has earned 10 caps for Spain, scoring twice, but has not played for the national team since 2023.
