Asantehene to deliver final Bawku mediation ruling

- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to announce final decision on the Bawku chieftaincy issue today
- Mediation mandated by President Mahama to end the long-standing dispute
- Dialogue sessions since April have helped reduce tensions
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to issue the final decision in the longstanding Bawku chieftaincy mediation today, Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
President John Dramani Mahama appointed the Asantehene to lead the effort aimed at achieving a permanent resolution to the decades-old dispute.
The Asantehene formally began his involvement in April, meeting delegations from both sides between April 28 and 30 to restart dialogue and create room for constructive engagement.
Although talks were briefly paused, they resumed on May 13. During that session, the Asantehene observed that the consultations had helped bring a period of relative calm to the area.
For years, Bawku has experienced repeated violence, intermittent attacks, and persistent tensions—resulting in fatalities, curfews, and major disruptions to everyday life.
These challenges have strained community cohesion and heightened national concern over the urgent need for a sustainable peace settlement.
According to the Manhyia Palace, today’s meeting represents the culmination of months of intense peace-building work.
Residents and observers alike are hopeful that the ruling will help break the cycle of violence and pave the way for lasting stability, reconciliation, and development in the conflict-affected municipality.
