Eric Tinkler has set out an ambition to help restore Asante Kotoko’s standing in African football, saying success on the pitch must be matched by long-term player development.
In comments reported by 3News following his appointment as the club’s head coach, the South African said he was joining the Porcupine Warriors with the desire to compete for honours. He described Kotoko as one of the continent’s major clubs and said bringing back its glory would be his principal objective.
“I am a very ambitious coach,” Tinkler said, adding that he had arrived with passion and a desire to achieve results.
Tinkler’s remarks focused not only on trophies but also on building a sustainable future for the Kumasi-based club. He said Kotoko should continue producing talented footballers capable of going on to represent their national teams.
Experience and collaboration
The coach pointed to a career that has included playing in Europe and Africa, alongside coaching roles in South African football. According to the report, he has also taken part in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup and won domestic cup competitions.
Tinkler said he hoped that experience would assist him in delivering success at Kotoko. He also said he would work closely with the club’s Executive Chairman and Director of Football, Stanley Menzo, as part of efforts to rebuild the side into a leading African institution.
His first message to supporters, players, technical staff and management ended with thanks to the club for the opportunity to lead the team. The reported targets set a long-term frame for his tenure, combining a push for competitive success with the development of players for the future.
