- The registration will be conducted exclusively online
- To register, individuals must present a Ghana Card or Ghana Passport
The Electoral Commission (EC) is targeting to add between 50,000 and 70,000 new voters to the electoral roll during a mop-up registration exercise set to run from Thursday, August 1 to Saturday, August 3, 2024.
This three-day initiative is designed to allow individuals who have reached voting age since the recent registration drive, as well as those who missed the previous registration period, to enroll in the voters’ register.
In a press briefing held in Accra, Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, announced that registration will be conducted at 268 District Offices, 26 Public Universities, and 41 Prison Centers nationwide.
Registration will be available each day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the process will be exclusively online. The EC has collaborated with Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) to ensure reliable internet connectivity during the exercise.
The EC previously conducted a Limited Voter Registration from May 7 to 29, 2024, registering 778,447 new voters, including 408,332 females (52.45%) and 370,115 males (47.55%). The current provisional voter count stands at 18,681,366.
Mr. Tettey emphasized that this mop-up registration is part of efforts to create an inclusive Voter Register for the 2024 General Election. To register, applicants must present a Ghana Card or Ghana Passport. If these are unavailable, two registered voters must act as guarantors. A person can only guarantee for up to 10 individuals and must ensure that all guaranteed applicants meet registration criteria, including residency in the electoral area.
Political parties may send agents to oversee the process, and the Ghana Police Service will provide security at registration centers to maintain a peaceful environment. Mr. Tettey also called on parents and guardians to prevent underage children from participating in the registration.
The exhibition of the Voters Register is scheduled from August 20 to 27, 2024, at all polling stations. Registered voters are encouraged to check their details either at their polling stations or via the provided shortcode.
