Samini explains technical glitches at GJA Awards performance

Reggae and Dancehall artiste Samini has clarified the technical difficulties that affected his performance at the recently held Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Samini explained that he was not originally scheduled to perform and encountered serious issues with his stage monitors during the show.

“I wasn’t billed to perform at that event. My friend, who is the current GJA President, called me when I returned to town two days before the awards, so I decided to show up and support,” he shared.

The artist noted that although the situation was unexpected, he did his best to handle it professionally.

“For a live performer, glitches are normal because anything can happen at a live event. In this case, my stage monitors weren’t working,” he said.

Samini added that technical problems like these are not unusual in live performances and that he has experienced similar issues in the past.

“It’s not the first time I’ve been on stage without functioning monitors. Sometimes you just communicate with the sound engineer through the mic — even if it sounds harsh — and ask them to fix it before continuing,” he explained.

He acknowledged that the organisers had properly scheduled performers for the event, such as Akwaboah, but technical issues can occur regardless of planning.

“I believe the organisers made provisions for performances because they had booked artists like Akwaboah,” he noted.

Due to the malfunctioning monitors, Samini said he had to end his performance strategically.

“You have to find a smart way to exit gracefully. Before leaving, I said I would have done more if the monitors were working. I mentioned meeting at the dinner — though I wasn’t even there — just to wrap things up nicely,” he concluded.
