Mavis Asante Criticizes Gospel-Secular Collaborations as “Noise”

Gospel artist Mavis Asante has strongly opposed collaborations between gospel and secular musicians, calling them “noise” and inappropriate for spreading the gospel. Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on April 28, she emphasized that the mission of gospel musicians is divine and should not be mixed with secular pursuits.

Mavis questioned the true purpose behind such collaborations, whether it’s for fame, hype, or soul-winning, and argued that each artist has a distinct calling. She compared it to how a lawyer cannot perform surgery, highlighting the incompatibility between the two genres.

While acknowledging past successful collaborations, Mavis insists that gospel music’s primary mission—spreading God’s message—should not be diluted through secular partnerships. She encouraged gospel artists to focus on collaborating within the gospel community instead.
