Kwabena Kwabena felt disrespected by a gospel artist

- The unnamed artist declined direct collaboration, referring him to her husband instead
- He praised Obaapa Christy for warmly accepting a gospel collaboration
Ghanaian highlife musician George Kwabena Adu, known widely as Kwabena Kwabena, has shared a personal experience of feeling disrespected by a gospel artist.
He recounted being dismissed as just a highlife singer trying to cross into the gospel genre—an attitude that made him feel like an outsider in the space.
In an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, Kwabena Kwabena revealed that the gospel artist treated him as though he wasn’t spiritually qualified to do gospel music.
“There was one gospel artist—I won’t mention names—but I found the experience quite disrespectful. She made me feel like a ‘worldly’ person,” he said. “I even called her directly, and she told me to speak to her husband instead.”
Despite that negative encounter, he went on to express deep gratitude to gospel singer Obaapa Christy, who warmly accepted his request for a collaboration on his seventh studio project, God of Restoration EP.
“I truly appreciate Obaapa Christy. When I reached out, she made me feel like she was honored to work with me. It was humbling. I now understand why she stands out as an artist,” he shared.
The God of Restoration EP features five tracks, with its lead single Fakyɛme featuring Obaapa Christy.
