KiDi Criticizes Lack of Music Industry Structure

Story Highlights
  • KiDi says Ghana lacks a proper music industry structure
  • Artistes operate independently with minimal institutional support
  • Poor royalty collection systems remain a major concern

Ghanaian Afrobeats and R&B star KiDi has expressed concern over the absence of proper structures to support the country’s music industry, stating that Ghana currently does not have a fully functioning music ecosystem.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the award-winning artiste said that while individual musicians are working hard, there’s no solid industry framework to support their growth.

“Every musician in Ghana has to fend for themselves, using their own resources, because there’s no structure in place,” he noted.

KiDi highlighted key gaps such as poor royalty collection and the lack of industry-wide support systems as major issues holding the sector back. He stressed that the current environment is not attractive to investors and continues to rely too heavily on the personal efforts of artistes.

He also criticised how the industry often places blame on musicians, despite failing to provide the necessary infrastructure for their success.
