The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed conducting a search and seizure operation at the Trassaco Valley Phase 1 home of Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.

The operation, carried out in June 2025 by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), was in response to a 2023 request from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of a broader international investigation into financial crimes.

During the operation, EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, allegedly purchased with criminal proceeds by Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving an 86-month sentence in the U.S. for multiple financial offences.

Both Ghanaian and U.S. authorities have linked the luxury vehicle to Amuah’s illicit activities, with the car reportedly traced to Shatta Wale.

EOCO stated the operation was conducted lawfully, without incident, and that officers acted professionally and respectfully throughout.

Shatta Wale reportedly requested discretion, expressing concern over the vehicle’s significance to his brand image. Nonetheless, he was permitted to voluntarily hand over the car, which is now in EOCO’s custody.

EOCO also clarified that SARU officers were armed during the operation, as is standard protocol for security purposes.

A formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request is expected from the FBI and DOJ to the Government of Ghana, seeking the repatriation of the Lamborghini as part of efforts to recover a $4.7 million restitution imposed on Amuah.

Additionally, EOCO named Shatta Wale and a former senior official of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) as persons of interest in the investigation. Both are expected to be invited for questioning to assist with ongoing inquiries.

The final investigative report may be shared with U.S. authorities in line with international cooperation frameworks.
