Yvonne Nelson’s Childhood Dream

Actress and film producer Yvonne Nelson has revealed that her childhood dream was to become a rapper.

In an interview on The Career Trail program, which aired on JoyNews and Joy Learning TV, Yvonne reminisced about her high school days, where she was part of a rap group. “I wanted to be a rapper. In school, I rapped a lot. We had a group like the Fugees, and I was the Lauryn Hill of the group. I loved Lauryn Hill,” she shared.

She mentioned that she always looked forward to entertainment events as they provided her the chance to showcase her rap skills. However, her path took an unexpected turn when she met Ghanaian filmmaker Abdul Salam, who introduced her to the movie industry. “Life happens. Destiny happens. I found myself in the entertainment industry because it was meant to be. I didn’t even audition. Abdul Salam saw me at Afrikiko, took my number, and invited me to the set. That’s how it all began,” she explained.

This chance encounter led to her first major role in Princess Tyra, which launched her into the spotlight and made her a household name.

Despite her rise to fame, Yvonne opened up about the challenges she faced, particularly balancing her acting career with her academic commitments as a Level 200 student at Central University. She also recalled a difficult moment on set with veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo. “There was a time I was filming with Kofi Adjorlolo and I kept forgetting my lines and wasn’t acting well. He was so upset, he said, ‘Change her, she can’t act. She’s wasting our time,’” she remembered.
