Ghanaian musicians scheduled to launch Highlife campaign in Barcelona

Ghanaian musicians are scheduled to perform in Barcelona, Spain, on 2 August 2026 to launch the “Highlife to the World, Black Star Experience 2027” global campaign.
The initiative is intended to promote Highlife music and dance to international audiences, while supporting the preservation of the genre for future generations.
The concert is due to take place at SeaSeaClub in Barcelona and will feature Stonebwoy, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Obrafour, Bessa Simons and Jupitar, according to information released about the event. Ghanaian DJs based in Europe, including DJ Logs, DJ Demo, DJ Enoch and DJ King Solo, are also expected to perform. Spain-based Nigerian DJ Enny is listed as a guest performer.
Bessa Simons, president of the Musicians Union of Ghana, said the campaign came at an important time following Highlife’s reported inscription on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. He said the genre, in its different forms, had influenced other styles of music and deserved wider global recognition.
The Barcelona concert is described as the first major activity under the campaign. A wider rollout is expected in March 2027, as Ghana marks the 70th anniversary of its independence.
The event is being organised by Ghana’s Embassy in Madrid, the Musicians Union of Ghana, Showbiz Africa and the BlackStar Experience. Its partners include Benayacon Entertainment, the National Folklore Board, the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Creative Arts Agency, with support listed from the Spanish Embassy in Ghana and the UNESCO office in Ghana.
Ghana’s ambassador to Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, is expected to host the Ghanaian delegation. Other named members include Ghana Tourism Authority chief executive Maame Efua Houadjeto; BlackStar Experience coordinator Rex Omar; Creative Arts Agency executive secretary Gideon Nee Aryeequaye; Showbiz Africa chief executive Verus Nartey; and Benayacon Entertainment chief executive Eric Acquah.
