Witness breaks down during Daddy Lumba marriage case

- Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Fosuh, breaks down in court during cross-examination
- Case seeks to determine whether Akosua Serwaa is the legal wife of the late musician
- Witness recounts family details, including children with Odo Broni and funeral attendance
The cross-examination of Ernestina Fosuh, elder sister of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh (Daddy Lumba), was briefly halted at the Kumasi High Court after she broke down in tears. Justice Dorinda Smith-Arthur asked her to take water and calm down before proceedings continued.
Her emotional reaction followed a question from the lawyer for Priscilla Ofori, known as Odo Broni, in a case where Akosua Serwaa Fosuh is seeking to be declared the legal wife of the late musician and the one entitled to perform his widowhood rites.
When the session resumed, Madam Fosuh told the court that Daddy Lumba returned to Ghana in 2013, and she often stayed at his Tantra Hills home during her visits. She first met Odo Broni when the latter gave birth to her son, Junior, and later learned that she and the musician had a second child named after their late mother, Amma Saah.
She confirmed that Daddy Lumba and Odo Broni had lost one child and said the couple registered three children at Tantra Hills and another three at East Legon. She stressed that she has always acted as a mother figure to her late brother.
The court is examining two main issues: whether Daddy Lumba performed the required in-law funeral rites for Akosua Serwaa’s mother, and whether the couple were legally married. Madam Fosuh insisted her brother performed the “Nseyie” rites and denied claims that the marriage had ended, saying Serwaa still holds health insurance and labour cards for married couples.
The case was adjourned to Friday after testimony from Osei Bonsu Kantanka of the Manhyia Palace, who provided insight into Asante marriage and funeral customs.
