Two Arrested Over Murder Of Former Dampong SHS Headmaster

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of Eric Obeng Darko, a former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.

The suspects—Mohammed Mubarak and Elizabeth Darkwah, both 38 years old—were taken into custody on June 9 and June 17, respectively. They have been arraigned before the Kodie and Suame District Courts, remanded into police custody, and are scheduled to reappear on July 4, 2025.

In an official statement, the police revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Elizabeth allegedly defrauded the victim in 2024. She reportedly convinced Mr. Darko to give her an unspecified sum of money under the guise of helping him uncover hidden ancestral gold.

As part of the fraudulent scheme, Elizabeth and Mubarak allegedly visited the victim’s home in Bampenase near Mamponteng one night. They dug up 20 pieces of a yellowish substance, claiming it was raw gold that needed to be purified at her church before use or sale.

Afterward, she avoided all attempts by the victim to facilitate the purification process. According to police, Elizabeth then allegedly conspired with Mubarak and three other suspects—who are currently at large—to abduct and kill Mr. Darko before he could follow up.

The investigation reveals that the victim was taken to Aboabugya, and when he tried to escape, Mubarak fatally ran him over with a Honda Odyssey vehicle.

Law enforcement authorities say a manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects.
