TTAG says disbursement of teacher trainee allowances has begun

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) says the disbursement of allowances for eligible teacher trainees has begun at Colleges of Education across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, the association’s National Secretariat said payments were being made in batches. It said trainees at institutions where beneficiary data had been fully validated had started receiving their allowances.

TTAG said the remaining trainees would be paid after the relevant authorities completed validation of their details. The association appealed to students who have not yet received payment to remain calm while the process continues.

The association described the allowance as an important form of support for students undertaking teacher education, saying it helps to reduce pressure from educational and living expenses.

TTAG thanked the Government of Ghana for what it described as the fulfilment of its commitment to teacher trainee welfare. It also acknowledged the roles of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, the Student Loan Trust Fund, the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education and other stakeholders in the disbursement process.

The association said it would continue engaging the institutions involved to support a smooth and timely payment process for all eligible teacher trainees.

Payments tied to validated data

According to TTAG, the phased approach means the timing of payment may differ between colleges, depending on the completion of data validation. The association did not provide figures for the number of trainees already paid or a timetable for completion of payments to the remaining institutions.
