A teenage boy has filed a complaint with the Bono Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), accusing his family of failing to provide him with adequate food and pocket money.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Beatrice Korsah, the Bono Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, confirmed the incident during a media briefing in Sunyani. “We invited his parents, and the matter has since been resolved amicably,” she said.
DSP Korsah explained that the teenager visited the office in his school uniform, a move that brought attention to the silent struggles many children face at home.
“This case highlights the hardships some children endure. His courage in coming forward is commendable, and we applaud him for standing up for his basic rights,” she stated.
She noted that the boy’s report led to a constructive resolution and reinforced DOVVSU’s role in supporting vulnerable individuals and offering a safe space for addressing abuse.
DSP Korsah also acknowledged that some men suffer domestic abuse but often remain silent due to social stigma. She encouraged everyone to report domestic violence, regardless of age or gender, stressing that DOVVSU is equipped to handle such cases with professionalism.
“All cases of abuse should be brought to DOVVSU. Our personnel are trained to respond with care, and our aim is to unify—not break—families,” she emphasized.
She concluded by reaffirming that DOVVSU is a safe and welcoming space for everyone—children, men, and women—to report abuse without fear.
