Ernest Yaw Anim, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, has strongly denounced a viral incident involving two male teachers who were caught physically fighting inside a classroom at a school in Pepease, within his constituency.
The widely circulated video shows the teachers brawling in the presence of students during class hours. Reports suggest the altercation was triggered by a personal dispute involving a female colleague.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, June 20, 2025, Mr. Anim condemned the incident, calling it “unprofessional and disgraceful to the teaching profession.”
“I have been made aware of the troubling incident in Pepease, where two male teachers were seen in a physical confrontation, reportedly over a female colleague. Let me state clearly that such conduct is unacceptable, unprofessional, and a stain on the image of the teaching profession,” the statement read.
Expressing deep disappointment, the MP emphasized that teachers are expected to uphold high standards of discipline, moral integrity, and emotional restraint.
“As a Member of Parliament, I hold our teachers in high regard and expect them to demonstrate maturity and moral leadership. The fact that two educators allowed a personal matter to spiral into violence on school grounds is incredibly disappointing and shows a lack of self-control,” he stated.
Mr. Anim called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to conduct a thorough investigation and apply appropriate disciplinary actions.
“This disgraceful incident tarnishes not only the reputation of the school but also that of the entire educational system. Teachers are meant to be figures of authority and inspiration. When they act otherwise, it sends a harmful message to the students they are supposed to guide.”
He also urged the school’s administration to support students who may have been emotionally affected by the incident.
“I encourage the school authorities to provide psychological counseling and support for students who witnessed the event. Their mental and emotional well-being must not be overlooked. It’s essential we maintain professionalism and discipline within our schools.”
Mr. Anim concluded by underscoring the importance of educators serving as positive role models:
“Our teachers must be exemplary—figures our children respect and emulate, not fear or doubt.”
