The Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One has sentenced a 19-year-old man to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing, MyJoyOnline reported.
Shadrack Cobbinah, described in court as unemployed, was convicted on his own plea by Magistrate Bernice Mensimah Ackon. The case concerned an iPhone XR and cash belonging to a nurse at Nkamponase.
Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah, who prosecuted the case, told the court that the complainant awoke at about 1.40am on 16 May 2026 and found that her door had been opened. Her iPhone XR, valued at GH¢2,500, and GH¢5,700 in cash were reported missing from the room.
The prosecution said Cobbinah was seen offering an iPhone for sale later that day. The phone was recovered and handed to police, the report said. Police also retrieved GH¢3,000 from him at the station, according to the prosecution.
Sergeant Yeboah told the court that Cobbinah confessed during interrogation and mentioned another person, identified only as Michell, as an alleged accomplice. That person was said to be at large.
According to the prosecution’s account, Cobbinah said he had taken the phone and GH¢4,000 in cash, rather than the full GH¢5,700 reported stolen.
The court imposed the five-year sentence with hard labour following his guilty plea.
