Tanker Carrying Cocoa Beans Instead of Fuel Intercepted in Volta Region

Police in the Volta Region on Tuesday, May 13, intercepted a petrol tanker en route from Madina in Accra to Jasikan, only to discover it was transporting cocoa beans instead of fuel.

Authorities suspect the beans were being smuggled to neighbouring Togo.

The tanker, bearing registration number GN 3801-13, has been impounded. The driver, whose identity has been withheld, has been granted bail and is currently assisting with the investigation.

A police spokesperson revealed to Graphic Online in Ho on Saturday, May 17, that the interception was made in the Peki area following a tip-off.

The confiscated cocoa beans have since been handed over to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

Meanwhile, a manhunt is ongoing to locate and apprehend the owner of the tanker.
