Tamale Man Arrested for Illegal Drug Sales

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested 53-year-old Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti for unlawfully possessing and distributing restricted pharmaceutical drugs in Tamale.

Sayuti was apprehended on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at around 1:30 p.m. during an intelligence-led operation at Victory Cinema near Aboabo, where he operates an over-the-counter (OTC) chemical shop.

He appeared in court on Wednesday, July 16, and pleaded guilty to charges related to the unauthorized possession and sale of restricted drugs.

During the court proceedings, Sayuti reportedly collapsed and was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) for medical treatment.

A police search of his shop uncovered 368 blisters of tramadol (120 mg) and 298 blisters of tramaking (120 mg)—both potent opioids restricted under Ghanaian law.

Subsequent investigations led officers to Sayuti’s residence in Fuo, a suburb of Tamale, where they found a warehouse containing 447 boxes of tramadol and 11 boxes of tramaking.
