The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Digital Chamber of Ghana (DCG) have jointly announced the appointment of Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah as their new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025.
Bringing nearly 20 years of leadership experience across Ghana’s telecom, digital, and FMCG industries, Ms. Owusu-Ankomah has held senior roles at MTN Ghana, Tigo (Millicom Ghana), AirtelTigo, and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC.
She has been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s digital landscape — including spearheading regulatory approvals for the country’s first major telecom merger, leading impactful public policy advocacy, and strengthening collaborations between the industry and government.
During her tenure at MTN Ghana, she played a key role in securing the 3G license and landing rights for the submarine cable, laying the foundation for MTN’s dominance in mobile data services.
Prior to this appointment, she served as Director of Corporate Relations at Guinness Ghana, where she led policy advocacy, sustainability programs, and strategic communication efforts. She also contributes to several boards and advisory groups focused on digital inclusion, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Stephen Blewett, Chair of the Governing Council and CEO of MTN Ghana, lauded her appointment, stating:
“Sylvia’s deep understanding of the telecom space and her proven ability to align stakeholders and drive results make her the ideal leader to guide the Chamber into a new era of digital transformation.”
She succeeds Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, who stepped down in June 2025 after serving as CEO for nearly eight years.
