Residents Resist Eviction, Cite Ownership Rights and MoU Violations

Residents of Tema Community One Site Three have launched a protest against what they describe as a forceful and unjust eviction by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), accusing the corporation of prioritizing redevelopment at the expense of their well-being.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the residents expressed deep frustration, stating that their homes and businesses are under threat, despite legally acquiring the properties.

“We bought and own these houses, yet TDC now claims all lands in Tema have been sold and is trying to reclaim available space,” one resident said. “Originally, only four-storey buildings were planned. They built eight, and now they want to go up to 15. The area is overcrowded—we struggle with poor air circulation and weak mobile network signals. They promised libraries and playgrounds, but delivered none. We won’t let this continue.”

Another resident revealed that multiple attempts to engage TDC leadership have failed. “We’ve met with the Managing Director three times. He told us the redevelopment plan is non-negotiable. But TDC must respect the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in place,” the resident stated.

The residents are calling for urgent government intervention to stop the eviction and defend their rights. They also warned of planned demonstrations if their concerns are not addressed.
