Pregnant Woman Killed by Husband in Dormaa West

A Fulani herdsman, identified as Mahmud, is suspected of killing his four-months-pregnant wife, Barikisu, in Frimpongkrom, located in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, June 16, 2025.

According to neighbors, Barikisu had endured ongoing domestic abuse, and in the days prior to her death, she confided in her landlord and his wife about her plans to leave for her hometown in Northern Ghana due to the persistent violence.

Mahmud, however, reportedly persuaded her to stay, promising to change—a promise that quickly fell apart.

On the night of the incident, while the couple was having dinner, Mahmud allegedly attacked and killed her without provocation.

He fled the scene immediately after and is believed to have crossed into Ivory Coast to evade capture.

An emergency procedure was carried out at a nearby health facility in an attempt to save the unborn child, but sadly, both mother and baby did not survive.

Barikisu has since been buried, while security forces in Ghana and Ivory Coast have launched a manhunt for Mahmud, who is currently on the run.
