OKESS Student Arrested for Possession of Firearm

The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old Form Two student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for allegedly possessing a locally manufactured firearm without authorization.

The arrest followed a routine dormitory inspection by school authorities on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., during which the weapon was found among the student’s belongings.

Upon the discovery, the student was immediately detained by school officials and handed over to the police for further investigation.

In an initial statement to police, the student claimed the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi. Acting on the tip, the police arrested Mr. Baafi on Thursday, May 15, 2025, to assist with inquiries into the incident.

Both the student and Mr. Baafi have been granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report back to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, as investigations continue.

The Head of Public Affairs at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the details in a press release issued on Sunday.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining safety and security in schools across the region.
