Odumase Chiefs Award Scholarships to Brilliant BECE Students

The chiefs and elders of Asante Akyem Odumase in the Ashanti Region have extended financial support to 20 newly admitted senior high school (SHS) students, including 14 girls and 6 boys, as part of their commitment to promoting education in the community.

Each beneficiary received GH₵1,000, having earned impressive results with aggregates between 7 and 9 in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The students came from various schools in the Odumase area, including Osei Kuffuor JHS, KOSS Model, Eliel Educational Complex, Agyare Agomat Basic, and Aduna JHS.

The initiative was introduced in 2024 by the chief of Odumase, Dr. Nana Kofi Antwi II, to support high-performing students in continuing their education at the secondary level. Dr. Antwi, who also serves as the Nifahene of the Asante Juaben Traditional Area and lectures at Valley View University (VVU), launched the programme in collaboration with the local Education Committee as part of efforts to promote educational development.

During a ceremony held at the Nana Mumuamor Ampam Palace, Nana Antwi, a retired Assistant Director of the Ghana Prisons Service, announced that the Stool Elders and Development Committee are planning additional community projects. These include:

Queen Mother of Odumase, Nana Yaa Koa III, used the occasion to urge parents to make education a top priority, emphasizing that a solid foundation is key to both individual and community progress.

Also present, Oheneba Akwasi Asim II, the Akwamuhene of Odumase, commended the initiative and pledged its continuation. He noted that such support would motivate students to excel academically and bring pride and development to their families and the entire Odumase community.

He also encouraged other traditional leaders to adopt similar programmes in their jurisdictions to promote education.

Last year, seven students benefited from the scheme and gained admission to top senior high schools, including Aburi Girls, Kumasi Anglican SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls, Prempeh College, Konongo Odumase SHS (KOSS), and KNUST SHS.
