Basic education in the Asante Akyem South Municipality has received a significant boost following a cash donation from the Christiana Addo Memorial Foundation (CAMF) to support the completion of the long-delayed Juaso-Yawkei Junior High School block.
The donation, the amount of which was not disclosed, was made on Friday, January 16, 2026, by CAMF President and Founder, Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour. The contribution came in response to appeals from the Yawkei community to complete the ageing school infrastructure. The initiative was coordinated through the office of the Assembly Member, Alhassan Abdulai, with backing from traditional leaders and other local opinion shapers.
Presenting the donation to the Headmistress of Yawkei JHS, Obour emphasized the foundation’s belief in education as a driving force for sustainable community development and social mobility.
“Our children’s education is the most powerful engine for community progress. By investing directly in Yawkei JHS, we are nurturing the future leaders, artisans, and innovators of this community and the wider Asante Akyem Municipality. This is not just charity; it is a strategic commitment to fostering self-reliance and unlocking local potential,” he said.
Obour also highlighted CAMF’s accomplishments, including awarding six scholarships annually to bright but needy tertiary students since 2017 and implementing several community sanitation projects. He urged stronger collaboration between school authorities, the district assembly, and other stakeholders to address gaps in educational infrastructure and pledged to personally fund the painting of the new JHS block once construction is completed.
Expressing gratitude, Yawkei JHS Headmistress Mrs. Helena Kemevor Ayettey described the donation as timely and transformative.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and foresight of the Christiana Addo Memorial Foundation and Mr. Obour. This support is a game-changer for our school. It will directly improve the quality of education and the learning environment for our students,” she said.
Mrs. Kemevor also appealed for continued community support, noting the school’s challenges with rising enrollment and limited facilities.
“While we are deeply thankful for this remarkable gesture, the school’s growing needs persist. We encourage other individuals and organizations inspired by CAMF’s example to join this vital mission. Together, we can ensure Yawkei JHS becomes a true centre of excellence for our community,” she added.
