The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East in the Western Region, Herbert Kuah Dickson, has condemned the violent clash between youth from Adelekezo and JAS Mining Company, urging residents to remain calm while investigations are ongoing.

The confrontation, which occurred last weekend in the farming community near Axim, resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy, injuries to several others, and the destruction of property, including vehicles and excavators belonging to the mining company.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Kuah Dickson assured residents that the Municipal Assembly is committed to a thorough investigation and stressed that anyone found responsible for the violence leading to the boy’s death would face the full force of the law.

The MCE condemned the actions of both parties involved and appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies to restore peace and order in the area.

He further revealed that the Assembly had previously warned residents and landowners against engaging foreign nationals, particularly Chinese operators, in illegal mining activities. Despite these warnings, some landowners leased their lands for mining, a decision the MCE said contributed to the unrest.
