NHIS Pays Over GH¢1.5 Billion to Health Facilities in 7 Months

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an additional GH¢267.67 million to settle claims submitted by health facilities across the country.

The payment, authorized by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare-Bampoe, covers claims vetted through April 2025.

This disbursement raises the total amount paid by the NHIA over the past seven months to more than GH¢1.5 billion, underscoring the Authority’s commitment to maintaining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and ensuring continued support for healthcare providers.

The NHIA noted that its prompt payment policy, introduced earlier this year, has allowed it to remain debt-free in 2025 while ensuring timely reimbursement to service providers nationwide.

The Authority reaffirmed that these payments fall in line with its core mandate—to fund healthcare services listed under the NHIS Benefit Package, which covers more than 95% of disease conditions treated in Ghana.
