Nana Yaa Jantuah Advises NPP to Skip 2028 Elections

- Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah says the NPP is not ready for the 2028 elections and risks a decisive defeat if it contests
- She urges the party to focus on rebuilding its structures and parliamentary strategies after the 2024 loss
- She warned that the NPP’s internal divisions and lingering shock from 2024 make a presidential challenge unlikely to succeed
Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from contesting the 2028 general elections, warning that the party is not yet positioned to mount a credible challenge and risks a decisive defeat.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Jantuah noted that the NPP is still grappling with the fallout from its 2024 election loss, with ongoing internal challenges weakening its focus and organizational strength.
She suggested that the party should prioritize rebuilding its structures rather than pursuing the presidency at this stage.
“The biggest opposition party in Ghana should not be contesting the next elections. The shock from the 2024 defeat is still lingering, affecting their ability to regroup. They should focus on rebuilding and possibly contest parliamentary seats,” she said.
Jantuah contrasted the NPP’s situation with what she described as improving economic conditions under President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting falling fuel prices and sharing her own experience of purchasing fuel for as little as GH¢200.
She also praised President Mahama’s leadership, noting his recent Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award in West Africa as evidence of growing regional recognition.
“With these improvements and the recognition President Mahama is receiving, it will be very difficult for the NPP to succeed in 2028, especially when many Ghanaians still view the party as divided and unsettled,” she added.
