NACOC reports arrest of three over alleged Tramadol shipment at Accra airport

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says it has arrested three suspects after intercepting an alleged shipment of approximately five million Tramadol tablets at Accra International Airport.

According to the Commission, the seizure followed an intelligence-led operation into an attempted importation of the controlled pharmaceutical drug. NACOC put the estimated street value of the tablets at GH¢100 million.

The Commission said preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution in Ghana and possibly elsewhere in the sub-region. It said it was examining whether the shipment is connected to a broader drug-trafficking network.

NACOC said the tablets have been secured as evidence while forensic and documentary examinations continue. It added that investigations were under way to identify and arrest any other people who may be linked to the alleged operation.

The three suspects are expected to be brought before a court after investigations are completed, NACOC said. No names or further details of the suspects were provided in the report.

The Commission said the operation formed part of its efforts to counter narcotics trafficking, and appealed to the public to report suspicious activity related to the illicit drug trade.

The allegations and the stated value of the seizure have not been tested in court. Further official updates may clarify the origin of the consignment, the identities of those arrested and the outcome of the investigations.
