- Incident occurred at a construction site in Dansoman
A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced a 34-year-old labourer, Kingsford Nii Sackey, to one day in prison for stealing window net frames worth GH¢30,875.
In addition to the custodial sentence, Sackey was fined GH¢6,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months in prison. The court, presided over by Susana Eduful, also imposed 500 penalty units, which carry a similar default sentence of three months if unpaid.
Guilty Plea and Case Background
Sackey pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing during his first court appearance on Monday, September 1, 2025, and was convicted on his own plea.
According to Chief Inspector Wemegeh, the case was reported by Michael Essien, a warehouse keeper at a construction site in Dansoman Keep Fit Down, where both Sackey and Essien lived and worked.
In the early hours of September 1, Essien returned to the site and saw Sackey leaving with two polythene bags. When confronted, Sackey tried to hide the bags. Upon inspection, Essien found 65 pieces of window net frames, each valued at GH¢475.
Sackey was immediately arrested and handed over to the Dansoman Police along with the suspected stolen items.
During police investigations, Sackey admitted to stealing only eight of the frames, not the full 65.
The court considered the value of the items and Sackey’s guilty plea before handing down the sentence.
