The Minister for Government Communications and Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to passing the proposed Sports Fund Bill into law to strengthen sports development in Ghana.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that efforts are ongoing to finalise the draft Bill before it is presented to Parliament for consideration.

“Work is still underway to ensure that the Bill is finalised and submitted to Parliament for debate and approval,” he stated.

He expressed concern about the current state of Ghanaian sports—particularly in football, athletics, and boxing—highlighting the need for improved infrastructure and better incentive systems for athletes.

“The proposed fund will be a game-changer for sports financing in Ghana. I believe this Bill will generate the necessary resources to invest strategically in sports, because we cannot expect world-class performance without adequate investment,” he said.

A draft version of the Bill, released on October 10, 2025, identifies 14 potential funding sources, including parliamentary allocations, sports lotteries, sponsorships, grants, and taxes from sports betting companies. Additional funding is expected from gate proceeds, athlete transfer fees, sponsorship deals, international federations, and commercial sports vendors.

Once enacted, the Sports Fund Bill will establish a sustainable financing framework to support sports infrastructure development, athlete welfare, and capacity building across the country.
