The opening day of the final funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, witnessed a dramatic moment as famed traditional priest Kwaku Bonsam made a stunning entrance at the Manhyia Palace.
Riding on horseback and accompanied by a spirited entourage, Kwaku Bonsam arrived in full traditional regalia. He wore a horned crown-helmet, carried a symbolic staff of authority, and was flanked by an aide holding the Ashanti flag aloft—creating a bold and captivating display that turned heads and drew admiration from the crowd.
His entrance became a focal point of the day, with many praising the vivid representation of Ashanti tradition and spirituality.
The Dɔte Yie ceremony began on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the forecourt of Manhyia Palace, drawing thousands of mourners from across Asanteman and beyond to honor the late queen mother.
Earlier in the day, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led a solemn procession of chiefs and elders past the remains of his late mother. The ritual was accompanied by powerful drumming, horn-blowing, and traditional dances in tribute to her memory.
The public was also allowed to file past and pay their final respects, as the revered queen mother lay in state within the palace grounds.
