The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced an extension of the eviction deadline for businesses operating around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The affected establishments—mainly container shops, makeshift garages, food outlets, and provision stores—were initially ordered to vacate the area by February 5, 2026, or face forced removal.
However, following discussions at a meeting of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the deadline has now been extended to Monday, April 6, 2026.
The extension comes after interventions by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amakomhene, and the Dadiesoabahene, who appealed on behalf of the traders for additional time to secure alternative business locations.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has urged traders to use the extra time to relocate voluntarily, warning that no further extensions will be granted.
Speaking to Citi News, KMA Public Relations Officer Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye cautioned that traders who fail to vacate the area by the new deadline will be forcibly removed. “We are firm in our stance that unauthorized structures should not remain there. They must move,” she stressed.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium is currently encircled by numerous informal businesses operating from temporary structures, including wooden kiosks, metallic containers, and makeshift sheds.
According to the KMA, the eviction is part of broader efforts to enhance public safety, improve sanitation, ensure free movement, and restore order and aesthetic value to key public spaces across the metropolis.
