IGP Promotes Officers for Bravery

- Two officers promoted for rescuing robbery victims and arresting 7 suspects
- Operation took place in Greater Accra and Eastern Regions on August 7, 2025
- Chief Inspector Kotoka nominated for Police Cadet Course
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two officers of the Ghana Police Service in recognition of their bravery during an operation that led to the rescue of two robbery victims and the arrest of seven suspects in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka, based at the Anyaa District Police Command, has been recommended for enrolment in the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy. Upon successful completion, she will be commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps.
Her colleague, Constable Joseph Akondoh, also from the Anyaa District Command, has been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
A statement from the Ghana Police Service, shared with the Ghana News Agency, noted that the promotions stem from a commendable operation carried out on August 7, 2025, at Ablekuma Borkorborkor. At approximately 12:30 a.m., the officers, supported by four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), conducted a snap check and intercepted a green pickup truck. Two passengers jumped from the vehicle’s bucket, pleading for help and reporting that they had been attacked the previous night during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.
The officers immediately intervened, rescuing the victims and arresting one suspect on the spot. Further intelligence-led operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six additional suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker, along with other evidence.
On August 8, 2025, the IGP and the Police Management Board officially recognised the bravery and professionalism of the two officers and the supporting CPAs during a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters.
Mr. Yohuno praised their vigilance, dedication, and exemplary service, encouraging all police personnel to emulate their conduct. He reaffirmed the Police Administration’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding exceptional performance.
