  • Nana Boakye believes Ayine should have resigned or been dismissed over the serious allegations
  • A Plus accused Ayine of manipulating the Sanitation and Pollution Levy for personal gain in 2021
  • Ayine denied the claims but faced further criticism from Nana Boakye for his response

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has taken issue with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine’s response to corruption allegations made by Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Nana B, as he is commonly called, argued that Dr. Ayine should have either resigned or been dismissed due to the seriousness of the allegations.

He expressed disappointment with how the Attorney General handled the situation and the tone of his response.

“A Plus is not just any individual. He is an Honourable Member of Parliament from the Majority side, and he is accusing you of corruption and dishonesty,” Nana B said.

He added, “In your response, you’re claiming A Plus is making these accusations because you received campaign funds from Dr. Sledge. Some have suggested you file a defamation suit against A Plus, but you have refused, citing a desire to avoid distractions.”

A Plus had accused Dr. Ayine of influencing the drafting and passage of the Sanitation and Pollution Levy in 2021 for personal benefit while the NDC was in opposition.

In response, Dr. Ayine denied the allegations at a press conference on April 30, stating, “If I have to walk through mud to clear my name, I will do so. I won’t let anyone tarnish my reputation without a fight.” However, Nana B insisted that the matter should have been handled more professionally, given its national significance.

“If A Plus wants to drag you into the mud, do you want to go there with him?” he questioned. “Who wants their Attorney General to be involved in such a situation?”

Nana B also emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the Attorney General’s office, noting it is a constitutional position that should be treated with respect.

He further criticized Dr. Ayine’s response, claiming it unfairly tarnished Parliament. “If every MP had accepted money for their campaigns, there would be 276 thieves in Parliament,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, A Plus has publicly apologized to the Bolgatanga East MP regarding the accusations.
