- Roads Minister Agbodza confirms no financial obligations remain
- President Mahama visited the site and urged timely completion by June 2026
Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government has fully cleared all outstanding payments related to the Ofankor–Nsawam road project.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, September 4, Mr. Agbodza confirmed that a total of $77 million has been paid to the contractor, eliminating any pending financial commitments from the government.
In response to a question from host Wiston Amoah about payments made during his tenure, the minister stated:
“Over $77 million has been paid. As of today, we don’t owe the contractor anything. Every outstanding payment that led to the initial abandonment of the site has been fully settled.”
Mr. Agbodza expressed confidence that with financial issues resolved, the construction will now proceed without delays.
During a project inspection on Wednesday, September 3, President John Dramani Mahama urged the contractor to accelerate work and meet the set deadline. He warned that further delays would not be accepted.
“I’ll hold you to the June 2026 deadline,” the President reportedly told the contractor.
President Mahama also revealed that the project is now being financed under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme, which has received GH¢14 billion in funding this year, with an additional GH¢30 billion expected in the following year. He assured that adequate resources will be available to ensure consistent progress on the project.
