GNFS Demands Payment of Training Feeding Fees

Story Highlights
  • The Ghana National Fire Service has asked recruits, cadets, and some personnel to pay back unpaid feeding costs
  • Payments are to be made at GNFS HQ or into the Service’s Bank of Ghana account
  • The deadline for all payments is December 31, 2025

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has instructed its recruits, cadets, and certain serving personnel to settle outstanding feeding fees incurred during their training.

A circular dated October 9, 2025, and signed by the Director of Finance, DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah Jnr., outlines the directive, which stems from ongoing funding challenges faced by the Service.

“Due to funding challenges, Recruits, Cadets, and existing personnel who underwent training were required to contribute toward their feeding costs during the training period,” the statement read.

The GNFS has categorized those affected into two groups:

  • Individuals whose outstanding balances will be deducted from their bank accounts
  • Individuals who must pay in cash

Payments can be made at the Salaries Office at GNFS Headquarters or deposited directly into the GNFS account at the Bank of Ghana.

All affected personnel are required to clear their balances by December 31, 2025.

“We write for you to bring to their notice that they have up to 31st December 2025 to complete payment,” the circular emphasized.

This directive comes amid increasing financial strain on Ghana’s security services, with reports indicating that some officers are personally bearing parts of their training and operational costs.

The communication has been distributed to all regional fire officers, commandants, and the commanding officer at headquarters for strict enforcement.
