GMet Issues Weather Alert as Rainstorm Moves Toward Ghana

- GMet issues a weather warning over a rainstorm moving from Togo toward Ghana
- Volta and Greater Accra regions likely to experience morning rain and thunderstorms
- System expected to spread to Central and Western coastal areas later in the day
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert as a weak to moderate rainstorm moves westward from the Togo coast toward Ghana, with possible thunderstorms expected in parts of the country today.
GMet said the rain system, currently over the ocean, is likely to cause increased cloud cover and intermittent rainfall or thunderstorms along eastern coastal areas, especially the Volta and Greater Accra regions, during the morning hours.
As the day progresses, the system is expected to move further west, potentially affecting coastal areas in the Central and Western regions.
The Agency also warned that mist or fog patches may develop early in the morning over forested and mountainous areas, reducing visibility for motorists and commuters. Northern Ghana is expected to experience slightly hazy conditions during the same period.
By the afternoon, partly cloudy conditions are forecast across much of southern Ghana, with isolated thunderstorms or rainfall possible in parts of the middle and transition zones later in the day.
Meanwhile, the northern sector is expected to remain mostly dry, with sunny and mildly hazy conditions prevailing.
GMet has advised the public—particularly road users and residents of coastal communities—to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions as weather conditions evolve.
