Global InfoAnalytics Denies Vote Buying in Akwatia By-Election

Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has rejected claims that vote buying played a role in determining the outcome of the Akwatia by-election held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 3, Mr. Dankwah firmly stated that the election results reflected the true will of the people, not financial inducement.

“Absolutely Not” – Dankwah on Vote Buying Claims

When sit-in host Caleb Kudah asked whether money might have influenced the vote, Mr. Dankwah responded unequivocally: “Absolutely not.”

He explained that data collected by Global InfoAnalytics over the years consistently shows that only a small segment of Ghanaian voters is willing to trade their vote for money.

“We’ve conducted research in previous elections, and the data shows that only about 7% of voters are likely to accept money in exchange for their vote,” he said. “So if you invest GH₵10 million in vote buying, your return is just 7% — it’s not worth it.”

Vote Buying Ineffective and Unsustainable

Mr. Dankwah argued that the cost-benefit of vote buying is not only poor but politically unsustainable.

“It just doesn’t work,” he said. “The data clearly shows that in Ghana today, propaganda, money, or intimidation cannot win elections. What works is science, research, and a deep understanding of the voter.”
