President John Dramani Mahama has presented engineering equipment and logistical supplies to the Jamaican Defence Force in support of recovery and reconstruction efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The items were officially handed over on the President’s behalf to Jamaica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, during a visit by a Ghanaian delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
In a Facebook post on Monday, January 26, the Ghana Armed Forces indicated that the visit allowed the delegation to assess ongoing reconstruction works, receive operational briefings, and evaluate the welfare of Ghanaian troops serving in the multinational humanitarian mission.
The delegation toured several project sites where Ghanaian engineering personnel are actively engaged in rebuilding and rehabilitating homes for communities affected by the hurricane. These activities form part of wider humanitarian efforts aimed at restoring livelihoods and stabilising impacted areas.
Both the Ghanaian and Jamaican Foreign Ministers praised the deployed teams for their commitment and professionalism, noting that the collaboration among Ghana, Jamaica, and Guyana highlights strong regional solidarity and a shared dedication to humanitarian assistance.
Colonel Emmanuel Asia, Commander of the Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team, briefed the delegation on project progress, operational challenges, and plans for the remaining phases of the reconstruction exercise.
