Ghana Skate Boots Future Talents at Cotonou Championship

Ghana Skate has secured a historic spot in the inaugural International Francophonie Skate Youth Championship in Cotonou, Benin.

The event, which attracted top skating talent from across the continent, serves as an important preparation for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games later this year.

The Ghanaian delegation, led by Mr. Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe, President of Ghana Skate, along with Mr. Prosper Ashiquaye Doku, General Secretary, Mr. Joshua Odamtten, Commission Chairman for Skateboarding in Ghana, and athletes Cornelius and Tracy, are aiming for a podium finish.

This Championship also offers participants a valuable platform to gain international exposure, hone their competitive skills, and connect with fellow skaters and stakeholders in the global skateboarding community.

In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gameli Kportufe highlighted the team’s participation as a significant milestone for the future of Ghanaian skateboarding.

“We are extremely proud of Cornelius and Tracy for their dedication and hard work in representing our country. Their involvement will inspire a new generation of young Ghanaians to take up skateboarding and contribute to the sport’s growth,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority, and other supporters for their assistance in the team’s journey.

To complement the competition, a coaching and officiating development program was conducted, offering specialized training and certification courses for commission heads, coaches, and technical officials.
