The inaugural Ghana Herbal Conference has been officially launched with a special on-air event, underscoring the nation’s commitment to advancing herbal medicine as a vital component of national health and development.

Under the theme “Harmony in Herbalism: Balancing Tradition & Innovation,” the conference aims to elevate the role of traditional and herbal medicine by encouraging collaboration among practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

The three-day event is set to take place from November 20 to 22, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi. It will feature keynote plenaries, exhibitions, product showcases, interactive stakeholder sessions, and live herbal demonstrations.

At the launch, Mr. Jerry Ofori, Head of Events at Global Media Alliance and Project Lead of the Planning Committee, highlighted the urgent need to integrate herbal medicine into Ghana’s mainstream healthcare system.

“This is more than a conference—it’s a national movement,” he said. “We are encouraging Ghanaians to reconnect with our heritage and embrace the healing power of traditional remedies. Herbal medicine is part of our identity, our economy, and our future.”

Nana Asare, General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM), praised the collaboration driving the initiative and affirmed the Federation’s full support.

“This is a landmark moment for traditional medicine,” he said. “We’re proud to join this historic platform that will empower practitioners, enhance public confidence, and strengthen regulatory frameworks. A healthy nation is indeed a wealthy nation.”

The conference is backed by key stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, Food and Drugs Authority, GHAFTRAM, the Traditional Medicine Practice Council, and the Centre for Plant Medicine Research.
