Ghana Foreign Ministry holds strategic retreat to plan 2026 targets

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened a two-day strategic retreat to outline projections and set targets for 2026, focusing on enhancing productivity and ensuring efficient achievement of its objectives.

In his opening remarks, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) commended the management and staff for their achievements in 2025 and expressed confidence in further improvements in productivity and performance for the coming year.

Highlighting Ghana’s foreign policy in the current international landscape, he reaffirmed the country’s non-aligned stance and urged staff to continue advancing Ghana’s interests through effective diplomacy, emphasizing that diplomacy should deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

The Chief Director, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, expressed optimism for 2026, calling for renewed commitment, clarity of purpose, and sustained excellence in the conduct of Ghana’s diplomacy. She also commended the Minister and his Deputy for their leadership and dedication, noting several 2025 interventions aimed at improving staff welfare.

The retreat provided an interactive platform for detailed discussions on the Ministry’s 2026 agenda, allowing participants to propose strategies and set timelines for achieving objectives.

At the conclusion, Deputy Minister James Gyakye Quayson (MP) assured staff of the leadership’s commitment to coherence, accountability, and transparency, urging them to translate the Ministry’s vision into tangible results for citizens.

The retreat closed with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared determination to strengthen collaboration and delivery of the Ministry’s mandate throughout 2026.
