Five Remanded Over Assault on Kade SHS Teacher

The Kade District Court has remanded five individuals in connection with the assault of Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region.
The case, which has drawn widespread concern within the education sector, was heard on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Four of the accused, all adults, pleaded guilty and were remanded into prison custody, while a 17-year-old suspect was placed in police custody, with the case to be transferred to a Juvenile Court.
All five are scheduled to reappear in court on January 20, 2026.
In a statement, the Ghana Education Service (GES) commended the prompt legal action, emphasizing that it demonstrates the Ministry of Education and GES’s commitment to protecting teachers and enforcing discipline in schools. The Service warned students and the public against any attacks on educators, noting that such behavior will face strict legal consequences. GES also reiterated its dedication to safeguarding teachers and maintaining the integrity of national examinations, including the WASSCE.
